First Post In Forever

Life has been hectic for myself the last while so instead of blogging I have reverted to just tweeting cause the 140 character limit makes me get my ideas down as fast as possible. But its time again for another post to get my mind off a school if even just for a little bit.

I stole this list from my girlfriends blog lorenzinamichelotti.blogspot.com

Here it is... Questions while I avoid homework...

1. What my last text in my inbox, and the last text that I've sent say:
Inbox - Night hun. Xoxoxo *SMOOCH*
Sent - Pretty much. Well time to get back at it. You'll probably be asleep before I take my next break so I'll see you tomorrow. :) Night

2. A famous person I've been compared to.
I don't think I've been compared to anyone famous. Hmmm I guess that makes me unique.

3. 5 things that irritate me about the same sex/opposite sex.
1- People who use Nerd and Geek as a derogatory term.
2- When girls take forever to get ready every day. The odd special day sure but you look beautiful without makeup so spend less time in the bathroom and we us.
3- People who get mad without analyzing the situation.
4- Girls who put on so much makeup that we can't recognize you without it.
5- Slackers

4. The best thing that has happened to me this week.
Probably yesterday when my gf and I went to the Health Show then went shopping and for a bite to eat at the Moose.

5. Weird things I do when I'm alone.
I will do quick random dance moves, if you can call them that, and sometimes I pretend to pitch a baseball like I'm pitching for the World Series.

6. How I'd spend ten thousand bucks.
Some would be spent on a trip to San Diego Comic Con, a little for shopping, and the rest would be put away into savings and RRSPs.

7. Things I like and things I don't like about the way I look.
I am happy with who I am.  All my looks and blemishes make me the person I am.  Albeit some butt implants would be nice... (just kidding... or am I? ;D )

8. My last night out in detail.
I haven't really been out at night in a long time cause I usually have school or work most nights.  I guess my last night out would be a month ago when I went to the Vancouver Men's Fashion week with my gf.  We ate dinner at the Old Spaghetti Factory, then saw the show, and ended the night with some gelato ice cream.

9. Something that makes me sad when I think about it.
The lose of my grandparents this year.

10. Something I've lied about.
The amount of free time I have.  Sometimes I have a little bit more than I say but I usually use it to recharge from school.

11. Would I rather be stranded on a desert island with someone I love for ten years or someone I hate for a
month? Explain why.
It depends on the the size and how nice the island is.  It its paradise then with someone I love for 10 years.  If its crappy but big enough then one month with someone I hate cause I can get away from them most of the time.

12. Something I'm currently worrying about.
School, my knee, and if I'm heading the right direction in my life.

13. Something I do without realising.
I tilt my head a lot, whether its to people I see or stuff I hear or anything random.

14. Lyrics that apply to my current situation/mood.
We live on front porches and swing life away,
We get by just fine here on minimum wage
If love is a labor I'll slave till the end,
I won't cross these streets until you hold my hand

- Swing Life Away by Rise Against

15. A drunken story.
All I can say is lots of liquor, 3 good friends, the Blarney Stone, then getting kicked out of Red Robins and a long cab ride home.

16. Something I regret.
Life is a journey and I don't regret anything I have ever done.  Everything is a life experience.

17. Post a picture of myself.

18. Things I want to do before I die.
- Compete in one amateur MMA fight (Ultimate goal)
- Be at a Superbowl
- Hang glide
- See the Canucks win the Stanley Cup
- Travel Europe
- Visit Rio de Janeiro
- Go to San Diego Comic Con
- See a Sumo fight in Japan
- Complete a bachelors and masters degrees.

19. Press control V and post.

We will be stretching our upper bodies to warm up our muscles so they can take the strain of holding our bodies up and nothing gives out.  We will mainly warm up our shoulders as they take the brunt of the force but also our biceps, triceps, chest and back.
(2 Minutes)

20. Post a bit of my last IM convo

  • C F: Hey I'm back in BC, we should catch up sometime!!

  • Me:Hey that awesome! I'm super busy with school, work and a gf but I'll try and find sometime to catch up with you. Where are you living now?

  • C F: I'm in surrey again in guilford area again. Got a 2 bedroom for me an my kids. Is that ur gf in the pic? She's pretty :) good job. Yea I'm pretty busy 2, so yea we'll arrange something.

  • 21. 5 things I want to change.
1- Cost of housing in Vancouver
2- Raising of minimum wage in BC
3- My knee, may need another surgery if I screw up my knee again
4- The introduction of nutrition and health classes in elementary and high schools
5- Peoples perceptions of Nerds.

22. My view on being blogger famous.
HA! I'm not famous, I bet the main people that read my blog are my friends. Who knows I may be famous one day.

23. Someone I'd like to be for a day and why.
- Babe Ruth - He was the greatest baseball player of all time, enough said.

24. 5 things within touching distance.
- iPhone
- Biomechanics notes
- dirty dishes
- TV remote
- Chemistry textbook

25. Story of my first kiss.
I can't remember my first kiss.  It was probably when I was super young. But the first one I remember was at my best friends house when we were in grade 10.  He invited a girl he liked over and her friend.  Well I ended up kissing the friend that night. She then became my first gf.

Royal Wedding

So as I am writing this the Royal Wedding of Prince William to Kate Middleton is commencing and it has been a lovely and stunning ceremony.  I wasn't planning on watching it at all but when I got home from work I started watching some of the pre wedding shows on what seemed to be every single channel and lets just say it peaked my interest.  I am happy I decided to watch this, even if it means a short night of sleep, cause its a rare occasion that you ever get to see a Royal Wedding and all the work that goes into it.

Quick recap:
-Kate Middleton looks absolutely stunning in her form fitting, v-neck lace gown. WOW.
-Prince Williams looks smashing in his red military uniform
-the Queen looks bright in her yellow dress
-Westminster Abbey is so huge and beautiful with all its detail and newly added indoor trees, but the seating isn't the best for actually looking at the bride and groom
-all the speeches were so well written
-the singing by the choir was heavenly
-such a beautiful ceremony
-commentators actually went silent for the entire ceremony which allowed us to fully hear and soak in the moment
-also the horse drawn carriage with the accompaning armoured men on horses is a stellar way to travel from Westminster Abbey
-a couple of notable celebrities include Elton John and the Beckham's

This has just been an amazing night and I will remember where I was on this historical date.

Congratulations to Prince William and Kate Middleton, the new Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Relocation

Happy St. Patty's Day everyone! (I know I'm a couple hours late but most of you are probably still out enjoying the night.

Today I am writing about two possible relocation of sports teams that will directly affect Vancouver.  First there are currently two teams (NBA New Orleans Hornets, NHL Phoenix Coyotes) that are currently being run by their respective leagues because their previous owners were losing so much money.  In both cases the leagues have been trying to find local buyers so they can keep the teams in their cities.  The longer nothing happens the more likely one or both of the teams will be relocated to another city.

Now where would these two teams end up? For the Phoenix Coyotes the front runner seems to be Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.  They already have a NHL ready stadium and a fan base they will support the team.  One of the main reasons the Jets left town before was because of the lousy Canadian dollar, which is now around par with the US dollar.  If this comes to fruition then there will be a chain reaction with other minor league teams.  The AHL Manitoba Moose (Vancouver Canucks farm team), which play in Winnipeg would then move to Abbotsford, BC while the Abbotsford Heat (Calgary Flames farm team) would then move to Chilliwack.  Then the WHL Chilliwack Bruins would move to Victoria, BC.  I hope this all happens because not only would there be another Canadian team in the NHL, but the Canucks farm team would only be about an hour outside of Vancouver.  This should lead to more fans checking out the farm team, plus it would be easier to call players up. Also there will likely be a rivalry between the two AHL teams because of the small distance between each other.

The other relocation that I am really hoping happens is the relocation of the New Orleans Hornets, why you ask am I hoping they relocate? Its because one of the possible relocation city is none other than back here in Vancouver.  I hear the groin you and many others just let out, a lot of people seem to not care as much about this as me.  BC has produced some of the best Canadian basketball players and I believe there is a big enough market that it can succeed this time.  What you ask is different this time?  Well two main factors for optimism is the relocation of the Seattle Sonics, the closest team to the area now is all the way in Portland, Oregon.  Plus what I think is the biggest factor are owners (the Aquilini's) who are going to keep the team here because they are invested in the city and won't just pack up and leave like Michael Heisley did after just one year.  The Aquilini's seem to understand that money needs to be spent if you are going to build a winner like they have done with the Canucks.  They would spent to bring in the managers, coaches and players needed to give Vancouver fans hope, which they never had with the Grizzlies.  Also this would be a relocation team with actual talent, not an expansion team which are destined to suck for the first couple years.  They have 3 great players in Chris Paul, David West, and Emeka Okafor, though Chris Paul may be gone in a year or two.  Its a young team where everyone is 30 years of age or younger.  I'm hoping this happens so we can enjoy basketball again in Vancouver with the Grizzlies and resurrect the yearly Naismith Cup with the Toronto Raptors.

Good night and sweet dreams.

Careers

Hello my precious world, I am here to cuddle your weak minds by talking to you again about the different careers I am currently contemplating.

So since the last time I posted about possible career choices I have done a lot of thinking and researching. I have come up with some new ideas, modified others, while cutting some out completely.  Over the next couple weeks I will be attending some info sessions and after those I hope to cut down my list to a couple of options and go from there.  So without further ado here is the new updated list with categories.

Main Contenders
Stagecraft (behind the scenes of movies and theater)
BSc in Kinesiology - possibly leading towards a masters in physical therapy
Electrician
Railway Conductor

Possible Contenders
Plumbing
Fashion Designer/Marketer
Marketing for video games and film
Motion Capture Technician
Personal Training (side job)
Radiation Therapist
Framer

Unlikely Contenders
Business Degree
Embalmer
Firefighting (cause of knee)
Army (see above reason)

Here is the current list.  I have 2 info sessions to attend this upcoming week and a few at the start in april.
I hope by the second week of april to have my options cut down to a couple so I can then do pro's and con's of all that are left.  Then its just hope, pray and look for signs of what direction I should take.  Well I was planning on writing more but I have too much homework sitting beside me.  I will hopefully be posting more,  I will try my best.

Good night world, and please send prayers out to everyone affected by the earthquake in Japan.

The island of sticks and rocks/Plus 3 reinforcements

Howdy Dowdy,

How is everyone enjoying the weather lately?  I was lucky this past weekend, always seeming to be one step ahead of the storm in Vancouver.  Last thursday was my last midterm for this semester so I figured what a better time to get away for a couple days.  It just so happens to also have been the weekend when one of my best friends was visiting from Newfoundland.

She was here with a friend so the three of us decided to go down to Seattle to do some shopping and see Biffy Clyro at the Crocodile, a place where Pearl Jam and Nirvana got their starts.  Saturday morning started with me picking up the two hungover cackling hens from our friend Brittni's place, she was happen to get rid of them for a night, and we started our journey to the USA.  After crossing the border in pretty good time we hit Bellis Fair and the Seattle Premium Outlet Mall, all the while just staying ahead of the snow.  One thing that I have grown to love in the last few years and this trip just reinforced it is my new found love of wearing colourful clothes and shoes.  I bought three items on the trip, green pair of Converse, bright pink v-neck shirt from Abercrombie and a blue plaid button down shirt also from Abercrombie.  They matched well with my red Converse that I was wearing and my bright orange sweats that were in my bag.

After reaching and relaxing at the hotel we went out for some food downtown at a place called Dope Burger, and boy was that burger so good.  I got the double Dope Burger with a chocolate shake and I was so full after.  There was also a weird adult cartoon playing on the projector screen that had a lot of covered nudity.

Next was the concert where the main band was Biffy Clyro from Britain with Moving Mountains and Phantoms as the opening act.  Both opening acts were pretty good but Biffy was really good.  They had a lot of energy to their show and a nice acoustic set in the middle to slow it down a bit.  Both the girls ended up getting drunk and louder as the night went on, which was not surprising considering they are Newfies.  Their favourite things to yell out were "We're in the States!" "We are from Kanada" "We are from the island of sticks and rocks." They weren't helping the Canadian stereotype much.  I on the other hand stayed my usually relaxed and subdued self as I stayed perfectly sober the entire night.  This just reinforced my belief that I do have the will power to not drink, even being with two hot Newfie's in an international city, watching a concert I didn't crack.

The last reinforcement, which was partly a revelation is that I am finally starting to get a grasp of what the type of girl I am looking for in life.  Being with my friends and strangers in Seattle seemed to open my eyes to what the future may hold for me and while it may have helped me sort some things through, I think it may also be part of the weird feelings in my stomach yesterday. Or that could have just been indigestion from the junk food from the weekend.  I also wouldn't be surprised if the girls one day moved to Seattle cause they both love musicians so much and they seem to be in abundant down there.

The next morning started with me feeling good and the girls feeling like sick, one of the advantages of being sober.  The drive home was a direct one as we all were tired and wanted to relax after the fun weekend.  I had a great time and I will have memories from it for a long time.

I guess that will be all I write today.  I have a lot of topics that I would like to blog about but I don't want to bombard and use up all your free time, plus I have some homework to do before I go to my night class.  Hopefully I can write tomorrow about many more things that I have observed in my short time on this planet.

Have a good day and "HULK SMASH!"

Upcoming 2011 Comic Book Movies

Hello everyone,

Today I would like to talk to you about all the cool comic book movies that are coming out this year but a quick preview of what is on tap for next year.

May 6 - Thor

This is the movie that I am the most excited to see in 2011, with a fantastic cast with the likes of Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman, Colm Feore, Tom Hiddleston, and Chris Hemsworth as the Mighty Thor.  The director of the movie is Kenneth Branagh is a renown Shakespearean director and actor. Everything that I have seen so far has been quite simply EPIC!  The costumes and posters look amazing, and the latest trailer is possibly the best trailer I have ever seen, not only for a CBM but all films.  This is a wait 5 hours in line to get good seats for the midnight showing.

May 13 - Priest

Ok, so I haven't heard too much about this movie.  All I know is that it is set in the future where the Catholic Church has grown to be a great power and there are vampires that the church don't know about.  One day someone is killed by vampires and a priest decides to disobey the church and goes out to try and destroy the vampires.  The trailers for the movie seem to be look pretty good, I say its a see it in theater but a few weeks after it is released.

June 3 - X-Men: First Class

Ever since this film was first announced to be done I wasn't thrilled about it, I was hoping for a Magneto Origins movie.  The cast seems pretty good, I just hate how they have changed so many people that should be in a first class like Jean Grey and Cyclops. The trailer has swayed me a bit and I will probably go see the movie now, mostly because I believe that Michael Fassbender is going to have a great performance. Will I be standing in line for this movie, no way, but I will watch it either in a theater or on my computer.

June 17 - Green Lantern

Here is DC's biggest movie of the year and I believe its going to pull in a lot of money in the box office.  Mainly because Hal Jordan (the Green Lantern) will be played by an unknown Canadian actor named Ryan Reynolds ; ). Will this be the best CBM of the year? I don't believe it will because from the trailers it seems to be a little campy and on the goofy side.  I am hoping that the actual movie will be more on the darker side. This is a see it opening weekend movie because the CGI and affects will be amazing and Blake Lively who plays Hal Jordan's boss is smoking hot, while hoping that it becomes as big as it can possibly be.

July 1 - Transformers: Dark of the Moon

This is the third Transformers movie and they all follow the 3 basic rules, visually cool robots, over the top action and sexy, sexy ladies.  Some people will be sad that Megan Fox is not in this one but I'm sure we will all forget as soon as we see Victoria Secret model Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. You know what you will get with this movie, I will see in probably within the first week of the release.

July 22 - Captain America: The First Avenger

Captain America could quite easily be the CBM of the year (see a pattern here how Marvel seems to potentially have the top 2 movies of the year) and the big name actors will help it out a lot.  With Chris Evans as Capt, Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull, and Tommy Lee Jones as Col. Chester Phillips acting shouldn't be a worry for this movie.  I believe this movie will gain more than Thor simply because people know of Captain America more and most americans can relate to the war aspect of the movie. This movie is coming out the weekend of Comic Con 2011 (which I will be attending this year) so I will be watching this movie on July 25 down in San Diego.

July 29 - Cowboys and Aliens

This movie has two of the biggest action stars in the business in Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig.  Add in Olivia Wilde and John Favreau directing this movie could be the sleeper hit of the summer.  For me this is a see in the first week one.

August 19 - Conan

They have decided to do a new Conan movie with Jason Momoa playing said character.  I will make a decision on if I am going to see this when a trailer comes out.

2012 CBM's
Feb 17  Ghost Rider 2            May 4  The Avengers            May 25 Men in Black 3
June 8 John Carter of Mars      June 29 Star Trek 2               July 3 Spiderman Reboot
July 20 Batman: The Dark Knight Rises           Dec ???  The Hobbit Part 1

This should be a great year for CBM's..... That is all for tonight

RIP Dwayne McDuffie (Feb 20, 1962 - Feb 22, 2011)

Today is a sad day as an influential and popular comic book writer has passed away.  His name was Dwayne McDuffie and he was a writer for many companies including Marvel and DC, while also writing for many tv shows.

He was a smart guy with a undergrad in English and a graduates degree in physics from the University of Michigan.  He then went to film school in New York and that is when he got a job as an assistant editor for Marvel Comics, he also become Bob Budiansky's assistant on special projects and scripted stories for Marvel. In the early 1990's he became a freelance writer doing stories for Marvel, DC, and Archie comics. In 1992 he co-founded Milestone Media, which was a comic book company owned by African-Americans, and published their comics through DC comics.

He also made a transition to writing, and producing tv shows where he has writing credits for Teen Titans, What's New? Scooby-Doo, Static Shock (a character that he first created in comics with Milestone Media), and one of my favorite old cartoons, Justice League Unlimited.  He was also hired to help revamp the Ben 10 cartoon franchise where he wrote and produced many of the newest episodes.

After Justice League Unlimited ended, he made his return to writing comics with some great storylines in Firestorm, Fantastic Four, Justice League, and Beyond!.  His last work was writing the script for DC's latest cartoon movie "All-Star Superman" which ironically is being release today.

Dwayne McDuffie passed away from complications due to a surgical procedure the day before.

He was a great writer and I will always remember him when I read his comics or watch any episodes of Justice League Unlimited.

RIP Dwayne, you will be missed.

Vietnam/Legend of Zelda/Firefly/Laser

Howdy ya'll,

Its that time again,  its time for another post!  This post is going to be a lot more nerdy and a lot less serious compared to my last few posts.

I am happy that I don't live in Vietnam because Vietnam's Ministry of Information and Communication has put in a request to block access to online games between the times of 10:00pm and 8:00am. The government has also authorized other stiff measures in the last few months, do you know the reason why they are doing this? Its to help mitigate the apparent side effects of online gaming. I don't believe personally that online games are having that great of a side effect on us that we need to be monitored, but maybe there is a bigger problem in Vietnam then here.

Today is also the 25th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda, which was released on February 21st 1986.  So many of us have played one of the many versions and off shoots and it has instilled so many great memories.  Happy Anniversary and thank you for all the hours spent having fun.

So the Science Channel has bought the rights for Firefly and they will be airing all the episodes in order in High Definition.  Also a physicist will appear at times and help explain the theoretical sciences behind the show's sci-fi concepts.  This is awesome and hopefully this will help it gain a larger following and eventually lead to the show being picked up and new episodes being created.

Now to the most exciting and scary news of the past few days, the US Navy just broke the world record for the most powerful laser.  Their new free-electron laser is the most powerful as it can burn through 20 feet of steel per second.  This has led to the Navy awarding a $163 million contract to Boeing to help work on weaponizing it while also making it available to be used for on ship communications, tracking and detection.  Its scary to think about what would happen if this technology got into the wrong hands (albeit people may say its already in the wrong hands).  But being a nerd has made me think about all the cool things that may eventually come from this latest advancement, like blaster guns and lightsabers.  I can imagine it now, having my own lightsaber and being able to protect the ones I love.  I think I'm going to have a good dream tonight.

That is all for tonight, please return for another post at the same Nerd time on the same Nerd channel

Ready to Start

Hello everyone,

Here is just a quick little post before I go to bed, its just one of my favorite songs lately and its called Ready to Start by a great Canadian band called Arcade Fire.

Businessmen drink my blood

Like the kids in art school said they would
And I guess I'll just begin again
You say can we still be friends

If I was scared, I would
And if I was bored, you know I would
And if I was yours, but I'm not

All the kids have always known
That the emperor wears no clothes
But they bow down to him anyway
It's better than being alone

If I was scared, I would
And if I was pure, you know I would
And if I was yours, but I'm not

Now you're knocking at my door
Saying please come out against the night
But I would rather be alone
Than pretend I feel alright

If the businessmen drink my blood
Like the kids in art school said they would
Then I guess I'll just begin again

You say can we still be friends

If I was scared, I would
And if I was pure, you know I would
And if I was yours, but I'm not

Now I'm Ready to Start

If I was scared, I would
And if I was pure, you know I would
And if I was yours, but I'm not

Now I'm Ready to Start

Now I'm Ready to Start
I would rather be wrong
Than live in the shadows of your song
My mind is open wide
And now I'm ready to start

Now I'm Ready to Start

My mind is open wide
Now I'm Ready to Start
Not sure you'll open the door
To step out into the dark
Now I'm ready!

Sobriety/Control/Hypocrisy/Decision

Hello people of the "free" world, it is I again.

Today I would like to talk to you about something that has been a constant ongoing conversation in my mind, the possible idea of going totally sober.  I have gone through stretches where I don't drink any alcohol for a couple months, partly by choice but also partly cause I am slightly allergic to alcohol.  My allergies are usually kept to certain types of beer, wine, and spirits but there are times where it flairs up so bad that I can't seem to drink anything.  I am currently in one of those fazes, what essentially happens is my face and neck start to go super red and they start to burn.  If I try to drink anymore I can feel my throat start to tighten up a bit and that is the point when I have to stop.

Another main factor for me is simply control, I hate being out of control.  Not being able to remember things or control how I am moving or acting.  I may be an outgoing guy when it comes to subjects that I like, but I don't get super loud or crazily out of control.  Even having one or two beers gives me that relaxed feeling which bugs me most of the time plus the main reason I would even have one is that I like the taste.  Lately though when I go out I don't even have the urge to have a drink anymore, I would rather have a cold glass of water or a tasty protein shake.

The funny, or hypocritic thing is that I worked almost 2 years as a bartender at the Great Bear Pub in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada and now I am currently employed at a liquor store in Port Moody.  So when I am working I am constantly around alcohol and I see the effects it has on people, albeit not as bad as when I was bartending at a neighbourhood pub.  The potentially hard part for me is that I need to know about my product so I can sell it, I have accumulated a lot of knowledge from my years in the industry, its just all the new products especially wine that I need to learn about.  The odd shift I do have some tastings of products but lately I make sure its only 1/8th of an ounce and if its wine I swirl it around and then spit it out so I get the flavor with minimal alcohol.

Ok, so after many years of spotting thinking and hard times learned I have finally come to a decision.  I am going to go 99% sober.  No more beer or wine or spirits when I hang out with friends or at my place, the 1% of alcohol will only be the small amount of alcohol that I consume in tastings at my work.  Will I be sober for the rest of my life? I highly doubt it, I will probably have the odd drink for super special occasions like a glass of champagne at my wedding. There will be times where I will be tempted, like when I go to Comic Con or even next weekend when I go down to Seattle with two hot girls and my best friend.  Its just something that I feel I need to do to live a long and healthy life where I am always fully in control of my life and destiny.

This will be an ongoing internal discussion that will probably last for far to long.  If you have any comments or suggestions or anything don't hesitate to write it down below.

Have a good night and May the Nerd be with you.

Comic Con 2011 Ticket Debacle

Sorry everybody for not blogging the past week, just have been super busy.

One major thing that happened that made me both super happy and mad had to do with Comic Con and Ticket Leaps.  So as some of you may know, most years Comic Con does what is called a "soft release " where they release tickets for next years Comic Con without announcing the date.  I like this approach because true fans that really want to go would be checking daily to see if they are on sale.  This year they decided to change it up and announce the date beforehand, well that has caused some major problems because twice the tickets went on sale and the ticketing company that they used was so overwhelmed that the system shut down.  Its ironic how a convention run by nerds couldn't figure out their internet problems. Finally after a huge delay they announced the new date with a new ticketing company, for some reason unknown to me they used a company called Ticket Leaps, who in their mission statement said to be a small company.  How is a small company going to handle over 100,00 people hitting their site at the same time?

Well the day came and I was online minutes before the starting time, and guess what? The site was already over capacity! So over the next 2 hours I went through torture trying to get Comic Con tickets for this summer.  This included refreshing my page countless amounts of times, waiting until I can get in, and when I got in I found out that the 4-day passes were already sold out.  Great, now I have to buy 4 single day passes, so I selected the appropriate tickets and then had to refresh that page about another 100 or so times to advance to the next page.  After refreshing over 1,000 times in an hour and a half span I finally breath a sigh of relief as I receive confirmation that I have successfully acquired Comic Con 2011 tickets.

So after all of that I am for sure going to Comic Con this year, I only wish I was able to get a 4 day pass cause instead of registering once, I have to now register every single morning.  Oh well, I know I will have a great time cause it is COMIC CON, the biggest comic book convention in the world.  Now the rest of the planning (flight, additional hotels, car rental, costumes) can begin. :)

Online TV Piracy

Hello my fellow bloggers and bloggettes,

As some of you may have heard or have seen, the US government went ape sh*t today on some of the biggest streaming and P2P download sites.  As of this moment 5 sites have been seized by ICE, Homeland Security Investigations of the USA, with the sites either being totally removed or their front pages are plastered with the the US homeland security seal with the whole paragraph on unlawful distribution of copyrighted materials.  The thing is most of these sites either stream or embed videos from other sites who have copyrighted the material, these sites are just passing it along.  Wouldn't it be better for the US to go after the copyrighters instead of the streamers? Better to chop the tree down at the base, trimming of the top won't stop the main contributors.  One of the craziest parts of this is that the biggest site they took down was rojadirecta.org and its associate site rojadirecta.com but they couldn't shut down the three other sites that company runs.  The crazy part is how do the US have authority to shut down 2 sites that are owned and run by a company in Spain who went to court there twice and won both times the right to have their site.  Here is the full list of sites at the moment that have been shut down because of the US government:

rojadirecta.org        rojadirecta.com       channelsurfing.net
atdhe.net                firstrow.net              ilemi.com

It should be interesting to see if other streaming sites are shut down in the new few days and if any of the sites that were shut down end up starting up again whether it be with the same domain or a different one.

As a nerd who is constantly online searching for shows or anything, this caught me off guard and it makes you think just how much Big Brother is actually watching you. Its kind of scary when you think of it.

Thunder... THUNDER... THUNDER-NERDS, HOOOOOOOE!!!!!

UPDATE: Another site has been found to be shut down by the US government, strikegently.com is now gone.

Career/Comic Con Costume

Howdy fellow Nerds and Non-Nerds,

Were you one of those lucky people who always seemed to know what they wanted to do for a career?  Or are you part of what seems to be a growing group of people who can't decide on a career.  Well don't worry cause I am also with you.  I believe more and more people now a days have a harder time deciding on what they want to do because they have been exposed to a greater array of potential jobs.  Technology has improved our lives and made us more efficient in our every day lives but its one of the main reasons for the increased indecision.  More specifically the internet is the main cause of indecision in people, go back say 40 years ago and you will see that the accessibility of knowledge and up to the second updates didn't exist.  When you grew up you knew what kind of jobs were available in your specific region and maybe country, and people were more inclined to decide at a young age so they can start on their career as soon as possible and start a family.  Take my family for example, I am a 24 year old student living at home trying to decide what I want to do for the rest of my life.  My dad at the age of 24 was finished school, working full time in his career, married and had a newborn son (me!).  It just goes to show you how times have changed.

Today I have so many ideas on what I want to do as a career but I can't decide on what path to go.  The internet has opened my eyes to careers that I haven't even heard of before, and has helped me increase my career ideas list.  Technology has also opened up many careers for me cause I love technology and have thought about doing something tech related.

Here is a list of careers that I am thinking about getting into:
Marketing for video games or movies or fashion
Dietition
International Business
Movie Production (behind the scenes stuff)
Prosthetics/Orthopedics
Web Developer
Fashion Designer
Motion Capture Technician
Computer Technician
Firefighter (doubtful cause of bad knee)
Personal Trainer (side job)
Entrepreneur

Maybe its just I have a love and a passion for so many things in life that I can envision myself doing all of these jobs.  I'm just worry that I will pick the wrong direction and have to back track and start all over again, especially as so many people are a lot farther ahead in schooling than me.  Any of you have any suggestions on what I should do? Whether its on my list or not let me know what ya think.

Gretzky/Gym Pet Peeves

Hello all of my most loyal slaves, it is your ruler Jefafa again.  I know I am a few hours late but I would like to wish a happy 50th birthday to the greatest hockey player of all time, Wayne Gretzky.  99 turned 50 yesterday and it made my reflex on just how awesome he was and how many of his records will probably never be broken.  I hope Gretzky lives a long life because he is a Canadian icon.

Now on to a subject which has been bugging me a bit lately, the gym.  As my friends and family know, I am a fairly healthy guy. I try to live a healthy lifestyle where I eat the best I can and work out multiple times a week, not only to look good so I can attract a future mate, but so I can live a long and healthy life.  My goal is to live till I am 100 years old or even longer.  If I keep my healthy lifestyle and with advances in technology I think it is attainable.  Now onto the gym, there are some "quote" "unquote" rules of working out at the gym which some people don't seem to be following.  Probably my biggest pet peeve is how some people think that cause its the gym that they don't need to wash their clothes that often.  Well after a couple trips you should,  I don't know how many times I have been trying to bench press and I get a smell of the person next to me and I almost drop my weights.  PLEASE WASH YOUR CLOTHES!! Two other pet peeves of mine are people who don't put the weights away properly, I know it my take 2 extra seconds for you but it makes it even longer on me and I end up being at the gym a lot longer than I wish to be (especially if the stinky people are there). Also with the topic of grunting, I understand a little bit of grunting for that last rep or two.  But why do some people sound like they are dying? I don't need to hear you from across the gym.

Sadly this year I screwed up my quasi new years resolution.  Most years I take a few weeks to a month off of weightlifting 5-6 days a week and go down to 1 day a week.  I do this to give my mind and body a rest and recuperate.  Usually I do this every year in January and June cause that is when the gyms are the busiest, January cause of new years resolutions to work out and June cause the start of summer.  This year I decided to take a break the last 3 weeks of december because of finals and the holidays, so in January I started up again with what seems like a 50% increase of people at the gym.  No matter what time of the day or night you go the gym is currently busy, even at 10pm at night.  I'm just counting down the time until people break their new years resolutions and stop going to the gym, should happen in a matter of days.

Goodnight (or good morning) to everybody and May the Nerd be with you! ;)

Swing Life Away

Howdy everybody.

Just a quick little blog today, got too much going on in my life that I can't share at the moment.

I'm betting most people have days where you get tired of the whole dating scene.  Just the whole process of trying to meet people, gauging their interest, and everything.  I wish I could just skip it all and *poof* there is the girl of my dreams.  Well the girl of my dreams is not realistic cause she would either be a Jedi Knight, ruler of a world, or Supergirl.  So I will take the girl of my "realistic" dreams.  Ok fine, all I want is a girl to "Swing My Life Away" with.

Am I loud and clear, or am I breaking up?
Am I still your charm, or am I just bad luck?
Are we getting closer, or are we just getting more lost?

I'll show you mine if you show me yours first
Let's compare scars, I'll tell you whose is worse
Let's unwrite these pages and replace them with our own words

We live on front porches and swing life away,
We get by just fine here on minimum wage
If love is a labor I'll slave till the end,
I won't cross these streets until you hold my hand

I've been here so long, I think that it's time to move
The winter's so cold, summer's over too soon
Let's pack our bags and settle down where palm trees grow

I've got some friends, some that I hardly know
But we've had some times, I wouldn't trade for the world
We chase these days down with talks of the places that we will go

We live on front porches and swing life away,
We get by just fine here on minimum wage
If love is a labor I'll slave till the end,
I won't cross these streets until you hold my hand....until you hold my hand

I'll show you mine if you show me yours first
Let's compare scars, I'll tell you whose is worse
Let's unwrite these pages and replace them with our own words

We live on front porches and swing life away,
We get by just fine here on minimum wage
If love is a labor I'll slave till the end,
I won't cross these streets until you hold my hand

Swing life away [x4]

Success/Powers

Wow.  I would like to change everyone who has actually decided to view my blog... how many of you that are still alive is unknown but I should be getting those numbers from the forensic officers very soon.

Have you ever dreamed of being a superhero? I know I have, usually on a daily basis.  There are so many different powers out there, some are super cool to have, others not so much.  If you were allowed to choose only one power what would it be?  There are a few major ones which most people would likely pick like flight, invisibility, superhuman strength, healing powers, and telekinesis.  While all of these are pretty cool (especially the flight and healing powers) the power that I would choose would have to be super speed like the Flash.  The ability to run faster than the speed of sound would be awesome, and to be able to go anywhere in no time allows me to help out so many people.  Ability to out run bullets, and when you need to release some anger you can run far away quickly and shout without anyone hearing you (like Sheldon did on The Big Bang Theory).  But superpowers comes with great responsibilities and super speed doesn't help with your fighting skills and strength. So if you are lucky enough to gain the power of speed, do yourself a favour and do some weight training and martial arts training so you can live long and prosper. ;) Ha, got to love the random nerdy quotes.

Because of my love of speed and the Flash I will probably be doing a Flash related costume for comic con 2011.  I will be posting updates of my costume as it comes along.  I have done a classic Jay Garrick Flash costume before and my idea is to modify it into either an alternate earth (modernized styled) Jay Garrick or Jay Garrick from the JSA Liberty Files comic series.

                                                            Here is my classic costume

Here is the JSA Liberty Files Flash

If any of you have comments on either what costume style I should do or if you want to tell me what superpowers you would like to have then don't hesitate and just start typing.  Like I said I will be starting my costume as soon as I buy my comic con ticket and I will keep you all updated with my ideas and new pieces that I have assembled or modified.

Live long and be Nerdy all of you!!

The time has come!

Hello World,

It is your humble ruler Jefafa.  It has occured to me that many of my friends (followers/slaves) have not had the privilege of knowing what goes on in my crazy mind.  So I have started this blog to inform you all about what I think about on a daily basis.  Some of my posts will have a more serious side to them where I may discuss things that are bugging me but most will be light hearted and a tad nerdy in nature.

Today I would like to discuss the concept of time and time management.  Time always seems to be in short supply when we need it but in absolute abundance when its not.  I believe the hardest thing in life is to properly manage your own time.  Take me for example, a lot of the time I seem to be tight on time, whether its homework or being at school. Working my undercover job at a liquor store, eating, working out, creating my empire so I can take over the rest of the world, or trying to find time to actually be in a relationship. Its tough being in this situation but the only thing we can do is make the best of it.  Always have a smile on your face and enjoy that you may be super busy and seem to have no time for fun or girls/boys cause our time on this world is limited and who knows when its our time to leave.

Ok... enough of this more serious stuff... I just love how everyone though that my BIG decision that I was thinking about was if I should get a sex change or not.  Well I do appreciate and have a keen eye for colors and fashion, but sadly my hair isn't long enough and I can't make the change with short hair.  It just doesn't feel right.  Work tonight was a little slow so a few of us were thinking of what our names would be if we did decide to get a sex change.  For me I guess the two most logical ones would be Jess/Jeff or Jessica/Jefafa, although I have always been fond of the name Emma.  Does anyone think Emma fits me?

As some of you may know, I am a Nerd with very weird ideas and thoughts always running through my mind.  My nerdiness tonight hasn't been on full display but don't worry it will be in future blogs.

I would like to thank the approximately 3 people who actually decided to read this whole blog, and commemorate you for your courage and valor.  I will try and write as much as I can, time abiding of course, and soon you may find out what a small portion of my mind does every single day.

Live Long And Be NERDY!!!
